Walk BC

Walk BC

What is the easiest, cheapest and quickest way to exercise? Just put one foot in front of the other and repeat! Brisk walking has the greatest potential for increasing the overall activity level of a sedentary population. This initiative is providing supports to encourage people to walk regularly. The BC Recreation and Parks Association and the Heart and Stroke Foundation are working with communities to develop local walking programs and encourage walking through group and individual programs. BCAHL is also partnering with communities and provincial organizations such as the BC Medical Association so that health professionals can “prescribe” local walking programs. Now that’s a prescription that’s easy to fill!

Walk BC Grant Awards

BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) and the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon are pleased to announce communities that were successful in obtaining a Walk BC grant. In total over $160,000.00 was awarded to communities around the province.

Workplaces are great locations to promote healthy living and the integration of physical activity into daily life. Check out the Walk BC website for tips, tools, and resources to get walking at work! http://www.walkbc.ca/workplace-walking
