Webinar - Elements of Food SecurityBC Alliance for Healthy Living welcomes three different perspectives on food security to our September webinar. We hope to create a dynamic dialogue with many voices and opinions on how the elements of policy and practice can work to support food security for all British Columbians. So please join us and add your perspective to the mix.

Presenters:

Kristen Yarker, Executive Director of Dietitians of Canada, BC Region will take us through their ‘2011 Cost of Eating in BC’ Report and look at some of the provincial policies that could improve access to healthier food for those on low incomes.

Corine Singfield, Coordinator of the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project in Bella Coola, will speak about local initiatives that are working to improve food security in Bella Coola. Corine will speak about the challenges and opportunities of a local response to food security and provide insight on what could be done at the policy level to improve food security in remote areas.

Presenting an up-and-coming perspective on how to increase access to fresh food in remote communities, BCAHL welcomes Greg Halseth and Marlene Morris from UNBC’s Community Development Institute. CDI is interested in how communities can use the heat produced by local energy generation to improve year-round availability of fresh produce.
